Phosphatidylglycerols consist of a glycerol 3-phosphate backbone esterified to either saturated or unsaturated fatty acids on carbons 1 and 2. As is the case with diacylglycerols, phosphatidylglycerols can have many different combinations of fatty acids of varying lengths and saturation attached to the C-1 and C-2 positions. PG(23:1(11Z)/25:1(9Z)), in particular, consists of one 11Z-tricosanoyl chain to the C-1 atom, and one 9Z-pentacosenoyl to the C-2 atom. In E. coli glycerophospholipid metabolism, phosphatidylglycerol is formed from phosphatidic acid (1,2-diacyl-sn-glycerol 3-phosphate) by a sequence of enzymatic reactions that proceeds via two intermediates, cytidine diphosphate diacylglycerol (CDP-diacylglycerol) and phosphatidylglycerophosphate (PGP, a phosphorylated phosphatidylglycerol). Phosphatidylglycerols, along with CDP-diacylglycerol, also serve as precursor molecules for the synthesis of cardiolipin, a phospholipid found in membranes.","experimental_water_solubility":null,"experimental_logp_hydrophobicity":null,"location":"Mitochondrion membrane","synthesis_reference":null,"chebi_id":null,"hmdb_id":null,"kegg_id":null,"pubchem_id":null,"cs_id":null,"foodb_id":null,"wikipedia_link":null,"biocyc_id":null,"iupac":"[(2S)-2,3-dihydroxypropoxy][(2R)-2-[(9Z)-pentacos-9-enoyloxy]-3-[(11Z)-tricos-11-enoyloxy]propoxy]phosphinic acid","traditional_iupac":"(2S)-2,3-dihydroxypropoxy((2R)-2-[(9Z)-pentacos-9-enoyloxy]-3-[(11Z)-tricos-11-enoyloxy]propoxy)phosphinic acid","logp":"17.326306846","pka":"13.641245576372423","alogps_solubility":"4.20e-05 g/l","alogps_logp":"9.91","alogps_logs":"-7.35","acceptor_count":"6","donor_count":"3","rotatable_bond_count":"54","polar_surface_area":"148.82000000000002","refractivity":"271.15810000000005","polarizability":"118.53838531084102","formal_charge":"0","physiological_charge":"-1","pka_strongest_basic":"-2.9689647678483633","pka_strongest_acidic":"1.8907737771908404","bioavailability":"0","number_of_rings":"0","rule_of_five":"0","ghose_filter":"0","veber_rule":"0","mddr_like_rule":"0","synonyms":[],"pathways":[],"growth_conditions":[],"references":[{"pubmed_id":240350,"citation":"Rattray JB, Schibeci A, Kidby DK.
